The Cambrian Railways

The Cambrian Railways

Go on, get on the right track...

The Cambrian Railways provide some of the most stunningly beautiful rail journeys anywhere in the UK. Whether you are planning an activity weekend, a relaxing week on the coast or fun family day out – it's all on offer in this part of Wales – and there’s no better way to enjoy them than on the train.

Suggested Itinerary 1:
Make your way by train to Machynlleth in mid Wales, and buy a Cambrian Coast Day Ranger Ticket to head north. This is one of the most spectacular journeys in the UK where you’ll pass sheer cliff edges, sandy beaches, quaint harbour villages and seaside resorts. Two magnificent castles at Harlech and Criccieth await you along the line, and the world famous PORTMEIRION Italianate village (get off at MINFFORDD for this). Stop at TYWYN or PORTHMADOG to hop on a choice of little steam trains.

Suggested Itinerary 2:
To the south of Machynlleth take a trip to ABERYSTWYTH, through the DYFI BIOSPHERE and along an estuary full of incredible wildlife and nesting Ospreys to the bustling seaside town with its castle and yet another narrow gauge line that takes you to the world renowned falls at DEVIL’S BRIDGE.
