The Chester to Shrewsbury Line




This line travels through some of the finest scenery of the Marches, the borderlands of England and Wales. Through three counties the Chester to Shrewsbury line links historic towns and cities and offers a wealth of interesting places to stop and explore. From strolling along the riverside in Llangollen to a day at the races at Chester, this line gives you the opportunity to access both town and country in under an hour.

Suggested Itinerary: Pontcysyllte World Heritage Site
Travel by train to Ruabon station from either the Chester or Shrewsbury direction. Outside the station there is a bus rail interchange. Take a bus for Llangollen which runs approximately every 15 minutes during the day. Alight at Trevor and a 5 minute down hill walk will take you to the impressive Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. From there you can enjoy the wonderful views or walk the canal towpath to Chirk or Llangollen or return to the bus stop for an onward journey to Llangollen.
